Annual Boston Catholic Family Festival

The Catholic Family Festival gathers the wide variety of cultures in the Archdiocese of Boston – more than 30 of these cultures – for a day of praying together and experiencing the many expressions of particular cultures, including food, music, dancing, and worship. On Wednesday 11 March 2014, Fr. Michael Harrington, director of the office of cultural diversity; Janet Benestad, secretary for the new evangelization; and Karm Syndia Agustin, a parishioner of our parish (St. Angela’s Parish, Mattapan), join Scot Landry and Fr. Chris O’Connor to discuss the festival and how it gathers families from all backgrounds to pray together as one. - The Good Catholic Life:  Original article and Radio Show Click to listen to the show...

Holy Mass, the ‘Kiss of Peace’ at Mass

Kiss of peace – The “Kiss of Peace” or ‘Sign of Peace’ is part of the ‘Communion Rite’ in the Liturgy of the Mass in the Roman Catholic Church. It is a traditional Christian greeting dating to early Christianity. The practice remains a part of the worship in many traditional churches: Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Catholic Churches, Eastern Orthodox churches, Oriental Orthodox churches and some liturgical mainline Protestant denominations. It is often called the kiss of peace, sign of peace, or simply peace or pax – “Baiser De Paix” in French; and ‘Bay Lapè’ in Haitian Creole. In the Gospels, greeting with a kiss was also the custom practiced by Jesus Christ. However, the New Testament’s reference to a holy kiss (en philemati...

Cardinal Seán’s Christmas Message

Archbishop Seán Cardinal O’Malley has recorded a Christmas message which was played by Vatican Radio on Christmas Day throughout the world. We bring it to you here as well, in both web text and audio format. Click the play button below to listen.   “Christmas is the center of our history. We calculate the date from Jesus’ Birth 2013 years ago. For nonbelievers it is the year of the Common Era, but for us Catholics it must be unashamedly 2013 AD, anno Domini, the Year of the Lord. If we truly celebrate Christmas we will understand that God so loved the world that He sent us Jesus to be with us always, to be the Lord of History and the King of Hearts. Christmas is about God’s love breaking into our world, a flash of light in a darkened sky. The...
