Hour of Divine Mercy / Hour of Great Mercy3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
The Divine Mercy is a Roman Catholic devotion to the merciful love of God and the desire to let that love and mercy flow through one’s own heart towards those in need of it.
The devotion is due to Saint Mary Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938), who is known as the Apostle of Mercy.
The three main themes of the devotion are:
- to ask for and obtain the mercy of God,
- to trust in Christ’s abundant mercy,
- and finally to show mercy to others and act as a conduit for God’s mercy towards them.
The devotion includes specific prayers such as the Chaplet of Divine Mercy [audio].
The primary focus of the Divine Mercy devotion is the merciful love of God and the desire to let that love and mercy flow through one’s own heart towards those in need of it. As he dedicated the Shrine of Divine Mercy, Pope John Paul II referred to this when he said:
“Apart from the mercy of God there is no other source of hope for mankind“.
As in the prayers that form the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, there are three main themes to the Divine Mercy devotion – listed see above.
The first and second elements relate to the signature “Jesus I trust in You” on the Divine Mercy image and Faustina stated that on April 28, 1935, the day the first Divine Mercy Sunday was celebrated, Jesus told her:
“Every soul believing and trusting in My Mercy will obtain it.“
In her diary Faustina wrote that Jesus specified three o’clock each afternoon (3PM) as the hour at which mercy was best received, and asked her to pray the Chaplet of Mercy:
“As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it, invoke its omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners, for at that moment mercy was opened wide for every soul.“
Three o’clock in the afternoon corresponds to the hour at which Jesus died on the cross. This hour is called the “Hour of Divine Mercy” or the “Hour of great mercy“.

The chaplet contains the initial prayers as in a Rosary, then proceeds on the beads, adding specific offerings to the Father on the larger beads. On the smaller beads, it has specific other petitions for mercy. It then concludes by repeating a specific prayer for mercy [audio].

- On large bead
- Opening prayer:
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.
- Repeated three times:
O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
- Opening prayer:
- On three smaller beads, one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and The Apostles’ Creed
- For each of the five decades:
- On large bead:
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. - Repeated on each of the ten small Beads (10x):
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
- On large bead:
- Concluding prayers: Doxology, repeated three times (3x):
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. - Closing Prayer:
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. - Conclude with the Sign of the Cross.

In 2010, Cardinal Seán O’Malley asked Scot, who is also the Secretary for Catholic Media in the Archdiocese of Boston, to create a radio show in cooperation with WQOM 1060AM and the Station of the Cross network that would

We are happy to wish Echo Des Jeunes Parish youth group of St Angela a blessed fourth anniversary.
Echo Des Jeunes is one of the youth groups of St. Angela’s Parish that ministers to youth from twelve-years old and up. In addition to numerous pastoral, liturgical, social and cultural activities, the group prepares and sings as our youth choir at the Sundays Afternoon Mass every fourth Sunday of the month, and also at weddings and funerals Masses.

The Vatican II Constitution tells us that if we read and study the scriptures in the light of faith our understanding of all truth stored up in the mystery of Christ will be powerfully strengthened and be constantly brought to new levels of understanding and insight for us.
We look forward to seeing you there. Our initial focus will be on the Scripture readings of that day. This will help us prepare to more fully participate in that Sunday’s Mass.
